IAEP National Director Phil Petit is a 15-year veteran of the organized labor movement, appointed in 2010 to lead the rising EMS division. During Petit’s tenure as Director, the IAEP has rapidly grown to include thousands of EMS professionals from across the nation and taken a commanding role in the industry as a leader in policy development. Collaborating with the likes of UCLA’s Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, Petit’s contributions to the improvement of EMS labor standards include credits on the recently updated seminal white paper, “Accidental Death and Disability: The Neglected Disease of Modern Society” and multiple bills expanding PTSD/PTSI coverage among first responders.
As National Director during the COVID-19 global pandemic, Petit’s decisive leadership has allowed the IAEP’s 12,000+ members to operate at peak efficiency even as many units were overwhelmed with incoming patients. Securing proper PPE through tough negotiating to hold private providers responsible for protecting EMS professionals, Petit’s team helped achieve minimal infection rates among IAEP members as well as disaster response compensation for hundreds of infected first responders nationwide.
