About Sarah Schubert
Sarah was one of the first people on the scene of a major train crash as a teenager. She witnessed first-hand the challenges of responding to incidents, the aftermath and recovery.
As Chair of the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management (ICPEM), the world’s oldest learned society for disaster risk reduction, Sarah is passionate about supporting the professionalism of those working in the broad fields of civil protection and emergency management. In an increasingly precarious world ICPEM promotes the importance of preparing for, mitigating, responding to, and recovering from a variety of disruptive events. ICPEM provides a place for people working in all aspects and at all levels to join together, share knowledge and best practice and learn from one another. The ICPEM team bridge academia, policy and practice around the world to reduce the risk and impact of disasters and increase societal resilience.
Sarah is a life-long learner and has an MSc in Risk, Disaster and Resilience from University College London (UCL), Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction. Her specialist area of expertise and research is in organisational resilience. Her research identified the opportunity, and measures, for a paradigm shift in how ratings agencies can use lead resilience measures to promote improved resilience and have better assessment of company risk for investment decisions.
Sarah also provides consultancy services to multi-million-pound projects and organisations. She advises on resilience strategies, design, and operations across a variety of public and private sectors including finance, transport, pharmaceuticals, health and government.
